Mixed Success
(N.Z. Press Hssn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. February 4 New Zealand's newlyturned professional cyclist. W. Dalton, met with mixed success in his first races in professional ranks, at the Melbourne Velodrome this week-end. In his first race as a professional on Saturday night, the former Olympic representative was placed second to the experienced and powerful Western Australian professional. B. Waddell, in the five miles Acres’ Scratch Race. Today at the velodrome Dalton qualified for the semifinals of the Austral Wheelrace over one mile and a half by coming second in the sixth heat. However, he was eliminated from the event when he finished fifth in the semifinal from 60 yards. Later he rode into second place in the Professional Aces’ Scratch over six miles
