Decaying Weed Killing Fish
IN.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, January 18. A decaying slimy water weed is clogging the Aurere stream, near Whangarei, and emitting a noxious gas. probably sulphuretted hydrogen. The stench is so strong that it can be detected two miles from the stream. Eels are dying, crabs are leaving the water and several species of fish have been taken quite esaily as they swam aimlessly in shallow water.
