FAMILY DISPUTE A PROBLEM

Gangs On Alaska Highway (NZP.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DAWSON CREEK, B.C. Women and children are becoming a major problem on the 1500-mile long Alaska highway. They are the wives and children of maintenance gangs in seven camps scattered along the lonely southern section of the highway Superintendent Walter Willscroft said: ‘‘You get a couple of women who won’t let their kids settle their own disputes and it can turn into bedlam. “When this happens you have to get the families out of there in a hurry.” During the long winter months, some of the camps are completely isolated from the outside world The biggest problem then is getting the children to school. The Canadian Government, which is now responsible for the Canadian section of the American-built highway, have only recently allowed families to live on the highway.—(C.N.A.)
