Miss Margaret Harwood, aged 48, will take over the branch at Thanklin, Isle of Wight The first appointment was in 1958 when Barclays chose Miss Hilda Harding, aged 45, as manager of the Hanover street branch in the West End of Landon. Miss Harwood came up the “hard way” joining the bank as a ledger clerk in 1935. She was employed at several branches and also in the bank’s Rome office before becoming chief clerk in a London suburban branch. One of her brothers is also a bank manager.
