CYCLING Combined Clubs 9 Meeting At English Park
Rider* at the combined cycling cluba* weekly meeting at English ' Park last night were at the top of their form •after competing on the South Canterbury circuit during the holidays, and conditions were perfect. K. Jeffery* rode well to win two races.
Some riders were not prepared to make the pace in the five-mile amateur A grade scratch race, and often when others put on the pace were forced to ride hard to keep contact. At the bell the field was tightly bunched. In the back straight T. Cameron came away from the middle of the field, and R. Mann hooked his wheel. Round the bottom banking Mann gradually gained on Cameron, and won by inches.
In the three-mile cash points event K. Brown, D. Swanston, B. A’Court. and D. Herbert made a break after four laps and opened a big gap. These four shared the points until three laps from the finish, when the others caught them, and G. Moore went round the field to take the sprint. Moore won some points in the early laps, but it was only his winning the bell lap and his third in the final sprint that gave him the win with 14 points over Brown, with 13 points. The front markers in the shorter races kept up a very steady pace and gave the back men no opportunity of getting up. B. Yaxley is showing great improvement, and in the three-la,p B grade handicap rode away to win comfortably. Results were:—
