WOMEN IN P.G.A.
'Facing The Inevitable’ (N.ZP-A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, January 16. The British Professional Golfers’ Associate*! today decided to admit women members. The PGA. secretary (Colonel Harry Reed) announced this unprecedented step at a meeting in London. He eaid: “We have to face the inevitable. Instead of waiting for it to hit us we went out and met it. “Eligibility for membership will be the same as for the men. The women must be attached to a golf club or be playing professionals.” Colonel Reed added: “The women will also be able to play in tournaments under the same conditions as the men. “But they will not be allowed to pick up prize money until their six months' probationary period has expired.” The new scheme is a big step towards the P.G,A.'s brighter golf programme. If necessary, they will organise special events for women professionals.
