City Archers Score Well At NZ. Championships

WELLINGTON, Jan. 10. Brilliant shooting byGreenwood, the four-man archery team from New Plymouth, gave them the men’s national teams title in the New Zealand archery championships at Newton Park today. They gained 2437 points and a substantial lead over Christchurch, which finished second with 2338 points. Third was Gisborne with 2067 points. Wellington’s YJW.C.A. team took the women’s title in con. vincing fashion. Its score of 2072 points was well ahead of Timaru, which finished in second place with 1705 points. Auckland took third place with 1866 points. Timaru was awarded the Jackson Cap for the best turned-out club team. A new tournament record of 294 points was established by F. Green, of Christchurch, in the men's clout championship. Shooting with great skill in near perfect conditions, Green ran up a 32point lead over his nearest rival, D. Jagger, also of Christchurch. J. Richards (Auckland), last year’s titleholder, finished well back while J.

Hincho, Mangere. a strong favourite, gained fourth place with 246 points. Mrs L. Vincent (Auckland) bad a narrow victory over Mangere’s Mrs V. Tetley for the women’s title shot over a distance of 140 yards. Green recorded another success with a win in the men’s open flight championship while Mirs Tetley took the women’s titles in both the open and limited .divisions, Hincho took the men’s limited flight championship, beating M, Mitchener, of Auckland.
