WELLINGTON WEIGHTS

Trainers’ Views "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. January 10. Mr D. W. Brown, the Mosgiel owner-trainer-breeder of the Wellington Cup topweight, Great Sensation, said that he expected his horse to get 9-5 for the £10,126 two mile event at Trentham on Saturday week The Wellington Club’s handicapper, Mr R. N. Bluett, alloted Great Sensation 9-6. Mr Brown thought Great Sensation and Nerula would dispute the number 1 position. Last year Great Sensation carried 9-2 when he beat Quite Able (8-1), by a head in the New Zealand record time of 3min 17Jsec. D. P. Wilson, the Wanganui trainer of Llanmai. is very disappointed with the Llanstephan. gelding’s weight of 8-6, only 21b less than he carried in the Auckland Cup in which he was unplaced. Lord Sasanof. top-weight with 9-0 in the Auckland Cup, has been dropped 41b. In between the time handicaps were declared and the running of the Auckland Cup. Lord Sasanof won three weight-for-age races, beating Llanmai in the Clifford Plate, Mr G. J. Barton, the Dunedin owner of Desert Chief, did not complain about Desert Chiefs weight of 8-7, but he considered that there were too many horses with better credentials then his candidate more favourably weighted.
