Fairassan Takes Levin First Leg

Fairassan, which has been racing very consistently during the holidays, scored an attractive win in the Levin Handicap, first leg of the double at the Levin Racing Club’s meeting today. He was always close up behind the pace-making Gayestephan and won under a hold.

Hie second leg, the McDonald Memorial, was won by Misguided, the small Levin track suiting her front-running habit and she led all the way. Fairasan was favourite and Misguided second favourite. The combination in the double paid £24 3s for £1 Nothing looked like beating Fairasan, but the second leg resulted in a close contest, Truro, Romantic Knight, Trim Laddie, Gay Duchess and Rahul finishing close up The weather was fine and hot and the track was firm and fast. There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £70,254, an increase of £19,417 10s. Levin Handicap Gayestephan led by a length when they settled down in the Levin Handicap from Fairassan and Pariez. Stetson and Uniflow, Gallant Lady, Cheveux, Don’t Know. Vane, Spondulicks, Princess Donna, Pampas, Fairoaks and Banderole. There was no change going into the back. At the half-mile it was Gayestephan, then Fairassan, Pariez and Uniflow (in line). AH-The-Way Win Misguided led all the way In the McDonald Memorial Handicap. Trim Laddie was slowest away. Misguided being followed out by Gay Duchess, Romantic Knight, Truro, Northwestern, Silver Sprite, Aratiatia, Far Step and Stella Alpina, with Gold Bracelet dropping out to last. Misguided led to the turn, but her margin was reduced. Gay Duchess and Truro being almost with her. Romantic Knight was in the trailing position but being taken off the fence. Northwestern was still handy and Trim Laddie was wider out. Misguided just held on to beat Truro, and Romantic Knight, with Trim Laddie fourth and Gay Duchess fifth Rahui was a close and fast-finishing sixth on the inner, followed by Stella Alpina, Northwestern, Far Step and Silver Sprite.
