“One Of Big Hopes” (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 10. Scouting is one of the free world’s big hopes in the view of an American scouter attending the New Zealand jamboree at Wairoa, He is Mr S. B. Doughty from California, who is th* official United States abserver at the jamboree. Mr Doughty, who arrived at the camp today, is anxious to see an even greater interchange of scouts at international jamborees He firmly believes that scouting, with its non-poli-tical, non-racial approach, is one of the greatest instruments for bringing about international understanding especially among the people* of the free world. Tonight the Commonwealth Chief Scout. Sir Charles McLean. and high ranking camp officers attended a special dinner. People who assisted with the organisation and running of the jamboree were guests at the function.

Scout Canteens Busy (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. January 10. Canteen* have been busy at the .scout jamboree. Up to Monday night 25.000 bottle* of soft drinks had been disposed of and about three tons of ice-cream The freezers had to be replenished with ice-cream three or four times in one day. Huge quantities of confectionery have alto been dealt with. The turnover from all teven canteens up to Monday night was £2OOO.
