Japanese Rider To Visit Trentham
"The Press" Special Service
WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. The leading Japanese Jockey, Hideo Takahashi, will be a visitor to the Wellington Cup meeting this month. There is a chance that he will ride on the second day on Monday, January 22. Takahashi has been riding in the invitation races in Melbourne and Brisbane. Racing writers there say his style, and that also of the French visitor, R. Poincelet. is more akin to that of the
Australians than any of the other visiting jockeys.
Takahashi will be in Wellington from January 19 to January 26. He will be accompanied by four other Japanese, who will attend the yearling sales. He will not be available for mounts on the first day of the Wellington meeting, but says he would be pleased to accept any offers of rides for the second day. Another visiting rider will be D. Coleman, who is from Adelaide. He is coming over with the trainer, C. Hayes, who has been a regular buyer of New Zealand yearlings during the last few years.
Coleman has ridden 760 winners and has been successful in most of the important events run in South Australia. He has also done well on visits to Melbourne.
