Gold Globe, a four-year-old daughter of the former champion, Johnny Globe, won the Greymouth Trotting Cup at Victoria Park on Saturday, beating Broderick Bay and All Red. The cup was the main event and second leg of the double on the second day of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s midsummer meeting.

Gold Globe won by three lengths, after pulling out from a perfect trail behind the pacemaker, All Red, on the home turn and dashing to the front with 100 yards to go.

A four-year-old mare by Johnny Globe from Gold Reign, Gold Globe la owned by Mr J. Robinson and trained for him at Templeton by J. A. Carmichael, who drove her. Gold Globe could not do better than ninth in the H. W. Kitchingham Handicap on the first day, when the had difficulty getting a clear run over the last few furlongs. Yesterday she' began smartly and wa* toon just in behind the pacemaker. Gold Globe got a perfect run all the way, tucked in on the fence behind All Red and inside her ttablemate, Terako Queen. She pulled out coming to the home turn when Terako Queen tired, ran alongside All Red and had the race in her keeping in a few yards. Broderick Bay’s effort for second was a good one. He broke at the start and was well back in the field with a mile to go. Broderick Bay gradually made ground and was handy behind the leaders coming to the home turn. He finished strongly along the inside but had no chance of catching the winner. All Red battled on gamely for third after making all the pace. She held off the fourth horse, Heathmount, 'by a long neck. Van Rebeck caught Runfree 50 yards from the post in the Railway Handicap, the first leg of the double. He won by half a neck, with four lengths to the third horse. Young Garry. Van Rebeek was the 4/10 favourite in a race of oddly distributed betting. The stablemates. Vivacis and Young Betty, were the 2/4 favourites, and Semi Circle was the 9/3 favourite. The fortunes of the fancied horses were almost as random. Vivacis failed to complete the course and his stablemate ran last after breaking at the start Semi Circle was ninth and the favourite. Fury River, pulled up lame after finishing twelfth. On the first day on Thursday Van Rebeck lost his chance in the Probationary Handicap, when he broke at the start Yesterday he began correctly and was in front after a round. Butt let him ease behind Runfree at the six furlongs and he was pacing well in third place rounding the home turn. He finished solidly over the last 100 yards and his win, although narrow, was decisive. With Gold Globe in the double. Van Rebeck paid £lOB 6s 6d for £l. The weather was fine and sunny and there was a good attendance. The track was firm and fast being hardly affected by heavy rain overnight On-course the totalisator handled a total of £29,311 10s, including £3lll 10s on the double, compared with £36,948 on the second day last year. For the meeting the total was £53,380, compared with £62,304 10s iast year, First Leg Mighty Storm, Vivacis, Cumnock Lass, Second Lady, and Arriaga all broke at or soon after the start in the Railway Handicap. Fury River and Young Garry were the first out. Van Rebeck joined the leaders after about three furlongs, and coming down the straight with a mile to go was in front of Fury River, Meadow Gay, Young Garry, Semi Circle and Runfree. Runfree made a run wide out around the turn to join the leader* going into the back and took over with six furtongs to go. Going past the half-mile Runfree was clear of Rosalind Globe and Van Rebeck, Semi Circle wee next a length away, two lengths dear of Young Garry, Runfree continued pacing freely in the lead and was first into the straight Rosalind Globe was just behind him and Van Robeek was improving fast In no time Van Rebeck accounted for RosaMnd Globe and began to overhaul Runfree. Fifty yards from the post Van Rebeck came alongside Runtree and the two kept

up a baftting finish right to the end. Van Rebeck, on tte outside, won by half a neck. Young Garry finished on from a handy position on toe turn to take third four lengths away, beating Rosalind Globe by hall a length. Borodin was only a nose away fifth. Sixth was Meadow Gay, followed by Glowater, Gerreen, Semi Circle and Jan. The favourite, Fury River, which stopped rapidly over the last half-mile, pulled up lame after finishing bweMto. Young Goughs and Broderick Bay broke ait toe start of toe Gteymouto Cup and Stand In broke soon afterwards. AH Red was first away, and after a couple of furlongs was a length clear of Gold Globe.

Terako Queen and Heathmount were next, two lengths

away. After a round All Red was just clear of Terako Queen and Gold Globe. No Comment and Heatomounit were foltowing, ahead of Conunonwealto. Broderick Bay was making ground two lengths away.

There was no. change in this order at toe mile, except that the field had bunched slightly. Morsel and Stand In were toe last two. All Red carried on for toe next round and was still in front coming round toe home turn.

Gold Globe was finishing on down the middle and Broderick Bay was gaining ground with a determined run along the fence. Gold Globe reached the lead 190 yards from toe post

and was soon well clear. Broderick Bay kept finishing strongiy but had no chance and was beaten by three lengths. AH Red battled on for toird, a length and a half behind Broderick Bay. Heatomount was fourth a long neck away. A gap of two lengths separated her from Commonwealth, which just beat Terako Queen. ; No Comment, Morsel and Stand In were next. Young Goughs was pulled up with three furlongs to go after trailing toe field all the way.
