Truck’s Mishap In Kaikoura

A 22 - ton articulated refrigerator truck, laden with 12,0001 b of frozen peas, failed to negotiate the bend at the bottom of Churchill street on the Main north-south highway through Kaikoura at 6.45 a.m. yesterday. The truck tipped over on its side, careered across the road, and crashed into a concrete retaining wall. The driver, Mr J. Brooks, of 24 Jubilee street, WoMston, was assisted from the wreck-

age of his cab by Constable T. Mickell, outside whose house the crash occurred. Mr Brooks had a miraculous escape from serious injury, and suffered only bruising and shock. He was admitted to the Kaikoura Hospital for observation. A big task was involved in transferring the load of frozen peas to a relief truck which was called from Christchurch Hundreds of holidaymakers and residents in Kaikoura were attracted to the scene.
