High Standard Of Play (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. S. Although several heavy falls of rain made the greens a little slower, the third day of the eight-day North Island croquet championships saw some high standard play at New Plymouth today. The championship doubles moved into the semi-final stage and Mesdames H. Jordan and M. Crone will play off against Mesdames C. Cooper and G. Peploe for the championship doubles title tomorrow or early next week. Unless otherwise stated, all competitors are from New Plymouth. Results were:— Women’s Championships. First life: Miss R. Elliot (Auckland) 26 v. Miss W. Gibbs (Nelson) 21. Second life: Mrs A. Brewer (Auckland) 26 v. Mrs D. Mitchell (Eltham) 18; Mrs E. Tingey 26 v. Mrs Z Ross (Auckland) 8: Mrs F. Glass (Auckland) 26 v. T. MadeU (Auckland) 20: Mrs D. Mitchel! (Eltham) 26 v. Mrs C. Hanna 17; Mrs D. Mitchell (Eltham) 26 v. Mrs A. Brewer (Auckland) 7. Level Singles.—Second life: Mrs M. Aagaard 28 v. Mrs L. Balsom 14.
