TIME IN 21 CITIES
World Clock For Auckland
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, January 4
A clock being made for the new bead office building of the Auckland Transport Board will not only give the correct time in New Zealand but also the exact hour of the day in 20 capital cities of the world.
The clock is being made in Auckland by the Automatic Telephone and Electric Company (N.Z.), Ltd., which i* using a world clock owned by the board chairman, Mr N. B. Spencer, as a pattern. Mr Spencer it a clock enthusiast. In his home there are about 40 timepieces ranging up to 200 years in age Mr Spencer has collected them in various parts of the world.
He bought his world dock in Switzerland four years ago. Its face is only eight inches across, but it gives the tune in 30 cities.
“The Transport Board dock is being designed on mine,” Mr Spencer said, "but the number of cities is being reduced to make it more legible to the public.” Mr Spencer said the face would have a diameter of 2ft and the clock would be fitted into a panel on the ground floor of the new building, where it could be read from the pavement The centre face of the dock would give New Zealand time, a band with the 24 hours marked would move round it once every day and a further band surrounding the other would carry the names of the other world cities.
