TRIBUTE TO N.Z. YOUTH

Bishop Koh Impressed

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, January 5. A tribute to New Zealand’s Anglican youth was paid today by the Bishop of Kuala Lumpur (the Rt. Rev. Roland Koh), who was principal speaker at the Anglican youth conference at Ardmore College, Auckland. “I have been to such conferences many times,” said Bishop Koh, "but I have never seen a better-behaved group of young people, and they numbered more than 1500.

“Their spirit was admirable, and their attendances at Communion and other services and meetings excellent in every way.” Bishop Koh said he would carry away a lasting impression of the fine quality of New Zealand’s youth. He had something to say, too, concerning New Zealand’s contribution to the elimination of Communists in Malaya.

“For the last 18 months the situation has been under control, and I would say that Malaya is probably the most stable country in South-east Asia today. “New Zealand has certainly played a part in bringing about present-day conditions, and we are very grateful indeed.

“The soldiers you have sent there have won the respect and affection of the Malayan people. The fact that you so contributed has convinced them of New Zealand’s sincerity and has given them further confidence in the British Commonwealth.”
