RANDOM REMINDER

CAREFREE DAYS.

The family holiday at the beach is a joyous business, the only time of the year when the whole family can enjoy itself together ... for more than a few hours at a time. But even the best of holidays can sometimes have some dull moments, and it is for that reason that this column proffers a few suggestions for family games, to be played as the occasion arises, if it does, which it will. One of the most popular pastimes is called hunt the flipper. First it is necessary for a member of the family to borrow an underwater swimming outfit from another family, and then

to announce that he has lost a flipper. This requires the entire family to make a frantic search in the out-going tide, and it is lots of fun for everyone. There is always a prospect of Mum putting her foot on a jellyfish, or Dad being nipped by a crab. There are many similar searching games—Finding the Reel, when Dad is about to go fishing, or Balling the Jack, when the family is out in the car and Dad has a puncture. Sunny days can bring loads of fun for the young ones. Wait until it is a particularly hot day and Dad, who has not exposed himself to the sun for nearly a

year, is asleep beneath the beach umbrella. Then, on tip-toe, creep up and take the umbrella away. It is a good joke, too, to put sand in Dad’s tea sometimes, or to hide a flsh in some inaccessible spot beneath his bed. This game takes a little patience, however, if the best results are to be achieved. There are many other good games to play, and they all help to make the holiday a wonderful success, so much of a success that Dad, who had been complaining beforehand that he was weary of his job, finds himself fresh and eager to get back to work. And after all, that's what holidays are for.
