Ambassador’s Report

The Ambassadors of Britain, France and West Germany were informed yesterday by the American Ambassador (Mr Llewellyn Thompson) of the results of his first talks on Berlin with the Soviet Foreign Minister (Mr Andrei Gromyko) on Tuesday.The meeting was held to see whether thtre is a basis for East-West negotiations on Berlin. Results of the talks are not being revealed in Moscow. Mr Thompson cabled a full report to Washington after the meeting and yesterday he received Sir Frank Roberts of Britain. Mr Maurice de Jean of France, and Dr. Hans Kroll of West Germany in his Embassy study. The Ambassadors talked for an hour with Mr Thompson.
Sources said Tuesday's discussion was confined mainly to a review of previous exchanges and covered the German and Berlin situation in general terms. No substantial modifications or new proposals were believed offered by either side.
