Night Incidents At St. Arnaud

For assaulting a sheepfarmer at St. Arnaud, late on Wednesday night, two brothers. Trevor Desmond Allison and Francis Powell Allison, both carpenters of Christchurch, were each fined £lO and ordered to pay costs bv Mr G A Nicholls. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court at Nelson yesterday. Senior-Sergeant E B McCallum told the Court that the complaintant. A H McConochie. of The Lake station. St Arnaud, found a spotlight shining over his house and paddock about 1010 pm. and drove in his car to investigate He found the defendants parked in their car about a quarter of a mile away, and asked for their car number. Complaintant was first threatened and then struck three times by Trevor Allison, and once by the other, defendant When McCor.ochie’s father arrived on the scene, his son was again struck and he himself threatened The two McConochie's returned to the son's house followed 10 minutes later by the defendants who refused to leave. When McConochie telephoned the police, obscene language was used in front of Mrs McConochie and an attempt made to cut off the call. The defendants then left, saying they were going to the home of McConochie senior. Mr McConochie immediately telephoned his own wife, telling her to lock all doors
