Scouts Gathering For Jamboree

DUNEDIN, January 4. About 1300 scouts from all parts of New Zealand and overseas will move into Waiora, near Dunedin, tomorrow. By 5 p.m. the camp should be full with about 2000 scouts camping in the valley. This afternoon the second contingent from Auckland and the Northland scouts arrived, increasing the number of scouts at Waiora from 500 to 730. The Hong Kong scouts who
have been touring New Zealand will arrive tomorrow. A group of nine scouts from the Cook Islands arrived in Auckland in the Moana Roa today for the jamboree. The scouts have never been away from their home* before. they are drawn from various troops throughout the islands. They were billeted by the Castor Bay scout troop tonight and will leave for Dunedin tomorrow afternoon. The boys have brought full costume to demonstrate drum
dances and action song* at the jamboree. Some Australian scouts have travelled more than 2000 miles to attend the jamboree, although the average distance covered by the 60 Australians was about 1650 miles. The trip has cost each scout £llO. which will also provide a 10-day tour of the South Island when the jamboree ends on January 13. The one scout from the United States will arrive on Tuesday, after attending the world Rover moot in Australia. I
