SMALL FIRE IN TRAWLER
Damage To Wiring Akaroa’s overworked volunteer fire brigade, barely rested after the Hotel Metropole disaster on Wedneedav, answered another call shortly before 8 p.m. yesterday. The fire broke out in the electrical wiring of the trawler Moerangi, owned by Mr K. Pool, of Akaroa. which was at her moorings, having returned shortly before from fishing. Another fisherman. Mr L. Todd, who was on the wharf noticed smoke pouring from the trawler's wheelhouse He gave the alarm and fishermen went to the trawler in a dinghy and subsequently Mr G Braasell's fishing boat. Miss Wainui, skippered by Mr H. Kokianga, took the Moerangi in tow to the wharf. Fire extinguishers and a lead of hose brought the fir* under control. 1310 Moerangi 'a switchboard was destroyed and the fir* burned back along the wiring into the engine room.
