WAIMAIRI ZONING

Several Intend To Object

Although no objections to the Waimairi County Council district scheme (as recommended for approval under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1953) have been lodged at the county office yet, several ratepayers have indicated that they intend to object to the planning ordinance which permits private restaurants to operate in areas zoned residential A.

The council’s planning scheme was disclosed by resolutions of the council on August 18 and October 19 last year. Copies of the scheme may be examined at seven places within the county and two in the city (as advertised in “The Press”). Objections to the scheme, on prescribed forms obtainable at the county offices in the county and city, must be lodged on or before March 9. The council will later call for any person who wishes to support or oppose any of the objections lodged.

The objections will be made available to ratepayers for this purpose. If the council follows the same procedure as the Christchurch City Council, it will appoint a subcommittee to hear the objections and counter-objections and make recommendations to the full council on decisions to be made after the sub-committee has heard submissions from the objectors and counter-objectors. Any decision by the council on the recommended district plan is open to appeal to the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board.
