MINOR FIRES
A cigarette butt caused a small grass fire in the Diamond Harbour Domain, owned by the Lyttelton Borough Council, at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The fire was extinguished by the Diamond Harbour Volunteer Fire Brigade before any damage was caused.
About 10ft of hedge was destroyed by a fire on the property of Ewart Douglas, 403 Ham road, Fendalton, at 11.38 am. The fire was put out by units from the Central and Sockburn stations. Fire which broke out in a garage owned by Walter Allen, 67 Montreal street, at 3.9 p.m. caused minor damage to a sawbench before it was extinguished by units from the Central and Sydenham stations.
Woman Injured.— lnternal injuries were suffered by Mrs J. Allchurch, of 602 Gloucester street, in a collision between two cars at the intersection of Gloucester street and Stanmore road at 1.47 p.m. yesterday. Mrs Allchurch was taken by a St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital and discharged after treatment.
