Auckland Retains Brabin Cup

AUCKLAND, Jan. 1. Auckland retained the Brabin Cup when it beat Otago in the last round of matches, which ended today at Eden Park, by an innings and 172 runs. Canterbury, the runners-up, beat Wellington. by four wickets. Scores were: Auckland beat Wellington, which lost ail three games outright, and Canterbury on the first innings in a highscoring match, and confirmed its superiority the last game against Otago. The ’ final pom is gained were: Auckland 25, Canterbury 21, Otago 10, and Wellington 0. The Braithwaite Trophy, awarded to the best fielding side, was shared by Canterbury and Wellington. The bat tor the highest aggregate of runs went to M. Burgess (Auckland) who scored 254 runs. Close on his heels were H. Schuster (234) and S. Speed (212), also of Auckland. The bat to the taker of most wickets was won by M. Ryan (Canterbury), who finished with 21 wickets. H. Smith (Auckland) was next best with 19. Scores were:
Auckland 356 (N. Schuster 114, D. Morris 48, M. Burgess 49, S. Speed 51; R. Mitchell three for 106) beat Otago 115 (R. Stewart 23; H. Howarth three for 10) and 86 (T. Papesch five for 30). Canterbury 209 (M. Clements 31, L. Smith 45, W. Thomson 64, J. Coman 31; A Taylor four tor 64) and 116 tor six (Coman 31) beat Wellington 92 and 230 (J.
