HYDROPLANE SINKS

Salvage To Be Attempted (N 2. Press Association) NELSON. Dec. 27. A 12ft 6in hydroplane. Flash, owned by W. O’Brien of the Lake Kaniere Boat Club lies at the bottom of Lake Rotoiti. The craft was holed as a result of a propeller shaft fault late yesterday afternoon and went down in more than 100 feet of water. The driver. Mr O’Brien, got away salely and was picked up by rescue boats. The rescuers, however, were not in time to save the hydroplane from sinking. Salvage attempts will be made today by Nelson skindivers.
