COMET CRASH
Cause Probably Mechanical (N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter —Copj/rigM) LONDON, December 25. British European Airways’ chief executive (Mr Anthony Bilward) said yesterday that last Thursday’s crash of a Comet jet in Ankara. Turkey, was caused “probably by a mechanical failure.” Mr Milward, who arrived in London after leading a B.E.A. investigation team in an inquiry into the cause of the crash which killed 27 people, said there was no evidence of an explosion or of a pilot’s error.
