Obituary MR C. D. FRANCIS
Mr Cecil Dennis Francis, who died in Christchurch, recently at the age of 63, was well known for his interest in education and through his job as organising secretary of the Health Department's mass X-ray unit. Born at Wairuna, Southland. Mr Francis was educated at the Gore High School. He received his training in education at the
Dunedin Teachers’ Training College. He later studied at Canterbury College, where he gained an M.A. degree and diploma of education. After teaching positions, including seven years as headmaster at Roxburgh District High School. Mr Francis became headmaster of the New Brighton District High School. During his 10 years at New Brighton, the local parent teacher association was formed. This became one of his main interests. After his retirement in 1955. Mr Francis became organising secretary for the mass X-ray unit in Christchurch. He retired from this position in June this year. Mr Francis’s interests included scouting and debating clubs. He is survived by his wife and four children.
