Highest Total Since 1954 IN.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 26. The United States spent 5200 million dollars on foreign aid during the 12 months ended last June 30, the highest in seven years, the U.S. Commerce Department reported today. But large repayments from foreign countries reduced th? net cost of overseas military and economic aid in fiscal 1961 to 3900 million dollars, the lowest figure since the war. The 1961 gross aid figure of 5200 million dollars raised the total since World War II to 80.300 million dollars. This does not take into account millions of dollars of repayments and investments in such international institutions as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, United Press International reported. Military aid dropped to 1700 million dollars, about 300 million dollars less than the previous year. Economic aid increased by about one-sixtb from the 1960 level.
