GREEN DYE IN RIVER
Drainage Board Not Responsible When the Avon river ran green from Manchester street on Tuesday night the Christchurch Drainage Board was not responsible. The board sometimes uses fluorscene, a green dye. to trace leakages in the drainage or sewerage systems, but only as a last resort and then with minute quantities. The board’s officers have not used any of the dye lately. The American servicemen who fly to the Antarctic have the dye available for rescue work, and once before they "decorated” the Avon. The bright green dye colours a lot of river, but has no harmful properties for humans or fish.
