N.Z. ROWERS TO KEEP FIT
Bid To Win Empire Games Selection (HZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Dec. 20. Date nights, drinking and smoking are out for 10 determined young men this Christmas and New Year. Instead, every day at their homes they will follow a strict programme of running and bodybuilding training to keep themselves at peak fitness. The 10 are members of the New Zealand Rowing Association’s composite training squad which in the last three weeks beat Australia in the three eight-oar tests; Disbanded for the holiday season, the rowers will keep fit until they meet again on January 8 to resume crew training in a bid to be selected for the Empire Games team for Perth. The aim of the eight is that it will perform so well competitively that it will gain priority rating over all other rowing claimants fours, pairs and single scull rowers.
