Bookmaking Fine Reduced
(N.Z. Press Association} AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. Pipes totalling £325 imposed on Thomas Joseph Shortcliffe, aged 39, labourer, were reduced to a total of £lOO by Mr Justice Hardie Boys in the Supreme Court at Auckland today. Shortcliffe had been fined £l5O on a charge of bookmaking, £5O on cacti of three charges of' selling liquor without a licence and £25 for keeping liquor for sale without a licence. His Honour reduced the fines for bookmaking and selling liquor to £25 in each case, and imposed no penalty on the remaining charge He said he reduced the penalties only because of Sbortcliffe’s health. He directed that the fine> be paid at the rate of £1 a week.
