Britain Calls For Calm (N Z.P. A. -Reuter— Copy rig h t) NEW YORK. Dec. 18 Britain yesterday declared i that “calm negotiations. in a spirit of reconciliation” between France and the Alger- . ian nationalist leaders were i needed to achieve peace in the North African territory. Britain's chief delegate. Sir i Patrick Dean, told the Special Political Committee during the debate on Algeria ; that magnanimity. and recognition of the interests of France as well as Algeria, should be the guiding principle of negotiation between the two parties. H»e British delegate said he could not wholly support the resolution on Algeria tabled by a group of Afro Asian nation*, which was in some regards “one sided.” The resolution called on France and the “Algerian Provisional Government" to resume negotiations with a view to implementing Algeria’s “right to self-detec- . mination.” Senegal and Upper Volt* i yesterday Joined the St ocig- , inal sponsors of the draft.
