STUDY BY TEACHERS
New Bursary Scheme (N2. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. The Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) announced today that the Government had approved a bursary scheme for teachers and probationary assistants. Fees would be paid for teachers who had obtained at least two degree units while they were at teachers' c< 1lege—or by paying their own fee* after that—and who then wished while they were teaching, to continue their studies for a degree or a diploma Can He Reinstated Mr Tennent said the bursary would be suspended if the teacher failed to pas* the subject, but could be reinstated once he passed this or another subject by paying his own fees. The bursary would apply to teachers doing extra-mural work as well as those doing part-time study, Mr Tennent said teachers who had already received bursary assistance for three years or more of full-time study at a university would be eligible for the bursary Payment of fees would be granted only for subjects approved by the Director of Education and no graduates in art* or science would be eligible except those wishing to add the diploma In education to their qualification*.
