Tanker In Trouble
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 20. A 26,000-ton British tanker was last night reported to be broken down and wallowing in mountainous seas about 600 miles south-east of New York. The vessel is the Federal Monarch, of 26,912 tons. A tug is leaving New York today to take the tanker in tow. but a spokesman tor the towing company said it would take about three days to reach her. He said the tanker’s steam turbine propulsion system had broken down. She was travelling to Newport News, Virginia. The vessel was owned by the Federal Petroleum Carriers of London.
