TWO FEARED DROWNED
Lone Child In Launch
(NJC. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 20. A eeven-year-old girl is believed to Ike the only survivor of a fishing tragedy off Whangaparaoe today. She was found tn a 20ft launch which washed ashore in Hobbs Bay shortly after 7
o'clock tonight The girl told Mr J. Hobbs she had left Brown's Bay in the morning with her father and three-year-old sister for a day's fishing. The three-year-old child had fallen overboard’ and her father had jumped in to try to rescue her. He could not swim. She did not see any Sigh of her father or sister and remained in the boat until it drifted ashore tonight. The child was quite calm when she was found. but was worried for her mother. She was taken ashore, given a meal and put to bed. The names of the two missing persons are not yet available. Mr Hobbs and a neighbour. Mr P. Arcus, set off in a launch to search the area tonight. A nava' launch was sent up from Auckland to assist in the search.
