NX-Made Vessel In Service (N.Z. Preu Auociationf INVERCARGILL, Dec. 19 The £300,000 Wairua berthed at the Bluff ferry wharf this morning. Her maiden voyage from Auckland was completed in 93 hours at an average speed of 10.4 knot*. For 12 hours, the ship wa* reduced to six knot* during a strong southerly gale off Eart Cape. The lilac paintwork of the ahip showed evidence of the buffeting. But it wa* a good trip, said the macter. Captain I. D. William*. "I think ahe’ll handle well.” The ship entered the Foveaux Strait service today and Captain Williams estimated that the trip will take two hours.
The two main engine*— six - cylinder turbo - charged marine diesels, designed so the pressure of the exhaust gases increases power output —will not be on full power for three months. However, that will not have much effect on the inter-Irtand run. Representatives of ths Auckland shipbuilders. Mason Bros., Ltd., remained for the scheduled run to Stewart Island today.
