OUTSTANDING RECORD
Taiaroa Family, Of Timaru (N.Z. Press Association > TIMARU. Dec. 17. Mr and Mrs T. W. Taiaroa. of 215 Wai-iti road, Timaru. have reason to be proud of their family. The selection on Saturday of their eldest son, Gordon, as a tenor horn player in the New Zealand brass band which will go overseas next year, capped an outstanding family record.
These are the achievements of the other four sons:— Ray. aged 26: South Canterbury, Otago Brabin Shield and South Island Minor Associations' cricket representative.
Nelson, aged 25: South Canterbury Rugby representative, and flugel horn player in the Timaru Municipal Band, national quickstep and test selection winners.
Mervyn, aged 23: Canterbury and New Zealand Universities’ Rugby representative; winner, as a Timaru Boys’ High School pupil, of an American field scholarship. Lindsay, aged 18: Timaru Boys’ High School Ist XV and Ist XI, and this year's winner of the school’s Old Boys’ trophy awarded for outstanding leadership, academic and sporting achievements. He was the first recipient of this trophy. The two girls in the family. Beverley and Lesley, have distinguished themselves in Highland dancing competitions.
