OMOTO SEARCH ABANDONED
No Trace Of Cause Of Mystery Voice (From Out Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Dec. 17. A large-scale search by police and civilians for the owner of a mystery voice in the rugged hill area near Omoto. a few miles east of Greymouth, ended on Saturday. As a result of reports from residents of Kaiata in the immediate vicinity that they had definitely heard someone calling for assistance last Monday morning and afternoon. the Chief Inspector of Police in Greymouth (Mr H. O. Hansen) organised a party to search the area assisted by volunteers. However, the searchers were unable to find any trace of any human being. In order to make doubly certain, the Chief Inspector himself, i accompanied by Senior Sergeant T. Bryce, directed a large party of police, members of the West Coast Deerstalkers’ Association. and the West Coast Alpine Club, and civilians to a total of about 30. who thoroughly combed the busheiad, steep bluff at Omoto on Saturday still without success. As a result the search has been called off. Chief Inspector Hansen said yesterday that he would like to thank the citizens who had assisted the police in a very difficult search, more especially the members of the West Coast Deerstalkers’ Association and the alpine club. A bomb explosion in al hotel last night killed the chief of the Oran military police, slightly injured a French Army major, and caused heavy damage. Bomb and revolver attacks by European extremists and Moslem insurgents killed a total of six people in Algerian cities yesterday and 'injured six.
