In England the tax year begins on April 6 and tax Is deducted on a P.A.Y.E. basis. A single person with a £2OOO a year income will pay about £493 0s 6d; one with £350 Income, £2O Ils lid. Make sure you are conversant with concessions available. If you intend to stay less than three months you can receive medical treatment (prescriptions cost 2s an item) but if you intend to sta; longer, register with a doctor on arrival. Dentists charge a nominal £1 a complete course of treatment. The success or failure of your working holiday will not depend absolutely on the type of job you secure. It will depend on a host of little details, on your attitude of mind, on your friends.
