WAS ‘VOICE’ A GOAT?
Police Search At Omoto (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, Dec. 13. Eight Greymouth policemen continued to search the scrub covered hillside near Omoto for the third successive day in good weather today, but found no trace of any person. What was thought to be a call for help was heard on the hillside on Sunday and though no person is reported missing in the district, the police have undertaken an extensive search. Two dogs accompanying a civilian who was assisting the police in the search bailed up a goat on the hillside and it is thought that a goat might have been the cause of raising the alarm. One resident near the hillside said today that he had often heard goats and their bleats sounded like the voice of a human being. The police, however, are left with little option but to continue their extremely difficult task of scouring the steep scrub-covered hillside.
