“Brenner Seeking Victoria Post”

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, December 12. R is believed that Mr Y. S. Brenner, a lecturer in economics at the University of London who was refused an entry visa to Australia when he sought to join the staff of Adelaide University, has applied for a position at Victoria University of Wellington. The reason which the Australian Prime Minister •Mr Menzies) gave for refusing Mr Brenner a visa was that he was a former member of the Stern Gang. Mr Brenner, who is 34, was born in Israel. The Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University (Dr. J. Williams) yesterday would neither confirm nor deny the report. Mr Brenner had applied for a position at Victoria. Dr. Williams said that applications for posts at the university were treated as confidential until they came before the university council for confirmation. This was not a special measure for any particular application, but the usual course followed by the university.
