NOVEMBER FIRE CALLS
Record Length Of Hose Used In answering 256 calls last month, the Christchurch Fire Brigade ran out 47,200 ft of hose, the longest the Chief Fire Officer (Mr L R. Osmond) can recall in 33 years’ fire service. Reporting to the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board, Mr Osmond aid 246 calls compared with 146 in November of last year. The dryw eather was reflected in the number of herbage fires —ll3. compared with 59. There were 68 property fires (43 in November, 1960). and 14 chimney fires (eight). The brigade's engines ran 6214 miles in the month, compared with 4028 miles in the corresponding month of last year.
