NON-UNION SHEARERS
Farmers Urged To Test Issue (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Dec. 13 Farmers took a serious view of the Federation of Labour's directive to its members not to handle any wool from farms using non-union labour for shearing, said Mr J. H. Ferguson, president of Auckland Federated Farmers, today. Mr Ferguson said farmers should take up the challenge without delay. A test case to decide the issue would be necessary. He felt concerned at the changes taking place in unionism. “At one stage I favoured the abolition of compulsory unionism.” he said. “But now lam not so sure. It is neither one thing nor the other.” Mr Ferguson said he thought there were grounds for damages against the union where a termer was not able to dispose of his wool because union shearer’s were not available.
