New Commander Welcomed The new Salvation Army divisional commander for the Canterbury, Westland, Marlborough, and Nelson districts (Lieutenant-Colonel A. Albiston) and his wife were welcomed at the Christchurch Citadel on Sunday at a public meeting conducted by Major J. C. Waite. Lieutenant-Colonel Albiston. who was last in Palmerston North, where he was commander of the central north division, took over his new post yesterday. Fifty years ago his father, Lieutenant-Colonel T. E. Albiston, occupied the same position in Christchurch just before leaving for Australia. Lieutenant-Colonel A. Albiston has spent most of his life in Australia, and returned to New Zealand three years and a half ago. Trained as an officer at Melbourne, Lieutenant-Col-onel Albiston served in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia. In 1954 he went to London, where he attended the Salvation Army’s international college for officers. There he did an advanced administrative course in preparation for his present work. Mrs Albiston is now the Home League secretary for the Canterbury and Westland division.
