Agreement Dropped (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 12. Agreements tying electric lamp distributors to New Zealand Electric Lamp Manufacturers, Ltd., have been dropped to the satisfaction of the Trade Practices Commission. the commission decided today At the resumed hearing, the commission decided It approved of changes made to the policy operated by the five overseas companies which manufacture lamps in this country, under the name of New Zealand Electric Lamp Manufacturers, Ltd . which has its factory iri Wellington Counsel representing the firm (Mr W J Kemp) said all references to distributors in the agreement between the five overseas firms had been deleted The ~om mission chairman (Mr S T Barnett) said that because of the amendments the commission would make no order relating to the existing agreement. Included in the clauses dropped are those which forced the distributing companies to obtain all their supplies from New Zealand Electric Lamp Manufacturers Ltd . rather than import any or obtain any from the one other manufacturing company in this country (at Auckland). Also dropped were clauses which sought to ensure that anyone else beginning manufacture of electric lamps in New Zealand would have to charge prices in line with those of New Zealand Electric Lamp Manufacturers. Ltd. At a previous hearing, the commission refused to upset agreements between electric lamp distributors relating to retail prices of lamps.
