Footpath For Blind The Henderson Borough Council is forming a chain of footpath in Valley road so a seeing-eye dog, Della, will not lead her mistress, Miss Jean Fraser, on to the road. The Mayor (Mr F. G. Wilsher) told the council that Della had to walk on the road because there was no footpath. “As Miss Fraser doesn't carry a w’hite stick, motorists don't know she is j blind. Rotary Appeal ’ The annual street appeal conducted last Friday by Christchurch Rotary clubs resulted in a gross total of £1320 9s 3d. Announcing this at the club's annual “ladies’ day” luncheon yesterday, the president (Mr G. W. Oliver) said this money would be distributed to the five rotary organisations in the city for furthering the work of their various welfare committees. Cheap Strawberries The strawberry market in Auckland collapsed yesterday. Prices, which have been gradually falling over the last 10 days, reached the lowest level for many years. A spokesman at the markets said that huge supplies of strawberries, brought on by continued hot weather, had caused the collapse Choice table strawberries, which a month ago were selling at up to 4s 6d a chip, were auctioned at between Is 3d and 2s Bd. according to the variety and condition of the fruit Most of the supply, however, sold at from Is 6d to Is IOd.—(P.A.)
