HELP FOR THAILAND
Campaign By R.SA. (N2. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 7. A campaign to raise more than £2OOO as soon as possible to help a group of Thai former-servicemen is now under way within the ranks of the N ZJLSA. The money is needed to purchase a water pump to aid the establishment of hill’ farms on virgin hill country In Thailand. The pump will cost about 6000 dollars. It will fill storage tanks with river water so that the Thai former-ser-vicemen can not only improve the land they are farming but also produce two crops a year tasted of one. Information about the need was made known by the World Veterans* Association, of which the N.ZJLSJL is a member. This week the Dominion executive committee discussed the matter and on Tuesday—Thailand’s national day—decided to ask all affiliated associations of the N.Z.RS.A. to support a campaign to rise the funds needed to buy the pump. A personal letter to a.'l association presidents has been sent by the Dominion president (Mr K. W. Fraser). He says: "The project has appealed to the Dominion executive committee as a chance to demonstrate in a practical manner our desire to help less fortunate fellow veterans, thereby contributing to greater international goodwill on which the future of all of us is dependent. It is hoped that the necessary funds will be raised within the next few weeks so that the 45 Thai former-service-men concerned will receive a welcome Christmas present from New Zealand.”
