COLOMBO PLAN TRAINEE
Indian To Study N.Z. Dairying A young Indian dairy trainee from Calcutta, Mr Dibyendu Ghosh, has arrived in New Zealand for six months training under the Colombo Plan. He will spend some time at Massey College and will visit factories in Hamilton and Auckland. Mr Ghosh is the manager of a dairy factory at the Haringhata farm of the Government of West Bengal, where about 16,400 gallons erf cow and buffalo milk are processed each day. The milk, from surrounding villages, is distributed in Calcutta, about 30 miles distant. It is planned to extend the company’s activities by building multi-purpose dairies in Calcutta to process milk, butter, cheese, ice cream and milk powder. The 8 per cent, butterfat content of buffalo milk is broken down at the plant to 3.5 per cent, by the addition of milk powder from New Zealand. When Mr Ghosh returns to India he will take charge of a multi-purpose dairy in Darjeeling.
