AUCTION OF HOTEL
Passed In At £40,000
The Gresham Hotel, in Cashel street, was passed in at £40,000 at a public auction yesterday. It was offered by the estate of the former licensee, Mr P. Curtis. The auctioneer (Mr D. Chapman) opened the bidding at £35,000 after he had failed to attract a bid at the Government valuation of £45,000. After four bids of £ 1000 there was a lull, and the auctioneer asked for £5OO bids. Two were received. The (auctioneer's call for £250 bids brought no response, and the hotel was passed in at £40,000. The hotel building covers 40.5 perches. At the back of the hotel is an area used for parking, as well as an old building which was formerly a stable. The hotel building includes a shop, a tearooms, and two bottle stores and two bars. On the second floor are a lounge and diningroom. The hotel has eight bedrooms.
