EXPLOSIVES MAGAZINE
Site Near Cape Foul wind (N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT. Nov. 29. A new explosives magazine. sufficient to provide for South Island requirements, is to be built at Westport for Imperial Chemical Industries CNew Zealand), Limited. This was announced by the company today. The magazine will be near Cape Foul-wind, in an expanse of waste and deserted pakihi land. Tenders are being called for the construction of two 90ft by 40ft stores and a small packing shed, and work on an access road to the site has begun. When the new magazine comes into full service—possibly before next winter—Westport will become the only South Island port of call for the explosives-carrying vessel Wongala. The development of this new explosives area has been made expedient, the company says, by the number of large development projects in the South Island —including the Lyttelton road tunnel.
